Uh-oh! Cheryl dumped from X Factor USA

Rumours have broken out en masse that Cheryl Cole has been dropped from ‘The X Factor’ USA after a week of filming. She is said to have been replaced by Nicole Scherzinger, who was signed to present the show alongside Steve Jones.

No official announcement has been made by Simon Cowell or anyone from the show, but TMZ reports that Cheryl’s ejection from the panel is due to her overwhelmingly strong accent and a lack of chemistry with co-judges Paula Abdul and LA Reid.

Cheryl is also said to have angered ‘American Idol’ fans by switching seats with Abdul on the second day of filming, and taking the spot next to Cowell.

Digital Spy reports that Cole will now be summoned back to the UK version, although it is thought she will decline.

Poor Cheryl!

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TULISA FROM N-DUBZ?!?!!?

Fox release first X Factor USA trailer

Simon Cowell introduces us to ‘The X Factor’s American launch in this new promo clip from Fox, which features Aiden Grimshaw, Rebecca Ferguson, Mary Byrne and One Direction as the exemplary candidates from each category. The clip also introduces American audiences to Cheryl Cole and Steve Jones, and promises a show bigger than anything that’s been seen before.

The truth as we know it behind The X Factor rumours

X Factor rumours are flying around all over the place this weekend as the UK auditions draw closer and closer. Here’s a quick look at all the latest rumours, and whether they are true, false or unconfirmed:

Simon Cowell is quitting the UK version
The rumour: Simon’s too tied up with launching the American ‘X Factor’ to appear as a judge on the UK show, despite ITV bosses begging him to stay put.
The truth: It’s today been officially confirmed by ITV’s Head of Television that, though Cowell will remain on the UK version, he definitely won’t have as big a part to play as in previous years. The official word is: “We have been aware that his on-screen involvement in this series will not be as great as previous years for months now. It is something that we are completely comfortable with. We are talking to him about ways he can have an on-screen presence later in the show. He will not be a weekly judge, but he will be an enormous presence backstage as always.”

Frankie Sandford is replacing Cheryl Cole
The rumour:
This weekend The Sun has reported speculation that The Saturdays’ worst vocalist is in talks to replace Cole on the UK judging panel. ‘A source’ said: “Frankie has all the right ingredients for an X Factor judge. She looks great, she can hold her own and she’s been there. The Saturdays have had to work hard so she knows what the wannabes are going through.”
The truth: This story has only been circulating for a couple of days, and no official denial has come through yet. We would however be very, very surprised if Sandford were to become a judge.

Mel B is joining the judging panel
The rumour:
Mel B inadvertedly let slip on Heart Radio last week that she’s joining the panel. When asked by Jamie Theakston if her hints about returning to the UK had anything to do with the show, she said “Maybe so… anyway… I’m in so much trouble, why did I do this interview? I don’t talk about anything unless it’s ready to go.”
The truth: Though all official announcements regarding the judging panel are still pending, The Sun reports that Mel B is actually in the running to be a judge on the Australian version. Looks like the jury’s still out on this one.

Kimberley Walsh is replacing Konnie Huq
The rumour: After being a contender to take over from Holly Willoughby last year, Cheryl Cole’s bandmate Kimberley Walsh is close to signing a deal to present ‘The Xtra Factor’ in the wake of Konnie Huq’s sacking.
The truth:  Despite constant reports favouring Walsh as the frontrunner, ITV’s official line is “No decision has been made. Several names are in the hat”. Other contenders reportedly include Jeff Brazier and Stacey Solomon.

Gary Barlow will fill Simon Cowell’s position
The rumour: Two weeks ago it was reported Barlow was “days away” from signing a deal to join the panel, after Robbie Williams declined.
The truth: A newspaper poll named Barlow as top choice to join the panel, but – again – there is no confirmation yet on the panel, and Barlow has not commented.

Lily Allen is joining the panel
The rumour: Cheryl Cole’s ex-nemesis Lily Allen is a hot contender to join the judging panel if the Geordie lands a spot on the US version.
The truth: Lily took to Twitter last week to deny the rumours, saying “Nice to know that I’m 80% confirmed to be a judge on x factor, anyone thinking about running it by me? Maybe that’s the 20% bit… [sic]“.

Details on both the UK and US versions are expected imminently.

PREPARE YOUR HANKIES: Konnie Huq axed from Xtra Factor

Sad news everyone. Sad news. In news that will be a shock to precisely no-one, Konnie Huq has been axed from ‘The Xtra Factor’.

Despite going on record at the end of January saying she’d love to return, the Daily Mail understands that ITV bosses have given her the push. Her manager cites other commitments as her reason for leaving, but we’re going to assume the actual reason is that she WASN’T VERY GOOD.

Matt Edmondson, Laura Hamilton, Jeff Brazier, Georgie Thomson and Stacey Solomon have all been linked to the role. Our vote goes to Edmondson.

Leaked: X Factor final song choices

This could of course be totally wrong, but the X Factor finalists’ song choices have leaked. They will reportedly be singing up to four songs across the weekend, including their winner’s singles. For the first time since Season 1, each finalist has lined up a different single to be released in the event of their victory.

Matt Cardle, still favourite with bookmakers, is expected to open tonight with Dido’s ‘Here With Me’ before performing ‘Unfaithful’ with Rihanna. If he makes it to tomorrow night he’ll be singing Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’, and if he wins he’ll be releasing Biffy Clyro’s ‘Many of Horror’. Imagine the devastation of the “real music” fans if a Biffy Clyro song were to be an ‘X Factor’ victory single?!

One Direction, our tip to give Matt his biggest competition, will reportedly sing Elton John’s ‘Your Song’, followed by ‘She’s The One’ with Robbie Williams. Tomorrow they’ll do Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’ and their winner’s single will be ‘Forever Young’; but some conflicting reports think their Robbie duet will be ‘Never Forget’.

Rebecca Fergusson, our personal favourite, will begin with ‘Just Like A Star’, before a duet with Christina Aguilara of ‘Beautiful’. If she makes it to tomorrow she’ll return to her audition song with ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’, and her winner’s song is Duffy’s ‘Distant Dreamer’.

Cher Lloyd, the outsider, will open her campaign with a mash-up of ‘Boom Shake The Room’ and ‘Whip My Hair’ (oh DEAR, Cher) and her will.i.am duet is reported by some to be ‘Where Is The Love’ and by some to be ’3 Words’. Her winner’s single is Shontelle’s ‘Impossible’, and she’ll re-visit ‘Turn My Swag On’ too in the unlikely event she makes it through to the Sunday show.

Who do you want to win?

Konnie vs Dannii on The Xtra Factor

Another entry for the ‘Awkward Dannii Minogue Moments’ file.

Konnie Huq landed herself right in her bad books during tonight’s Xtra Factor by suggesting the mentor had “taken her eye off the ball” with Aiden. Dannii then said “Unbelievable” under her breath a number of times while Konnie tried to clarify that she was actually referring to the voters.

“There’s a lot of hostility,” Konnie said as Cheryl tried to make the peace. Yes, yes there is.

So who’s singing what on The X Factor tonight?

Cher’s doing a mash-up, Rebecca’s doing a ballad, Wagner’s going to be ridiculous… a standard week by the looks of it. Tonight’s Elton John Week on The X Factor and the song list is as follows:

Aiden – Rocket Man
Matt – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Paije – Crocodile Rock
Rebecca – Candle In The Wind
Katie – Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting
Cher – Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word (mashed with Eminem’s ‘Mockingbird’)
Mary – Can You Feel The Love Tonight
Wagner – Circle Of Life/I’m Still Standing
One Direction – Something About The Way You Look Tonight

JLS, Take That and Westlife will all be performing on tomorrow’s results show.

Cheryl Cole on X Factor: Mimed, autotuned or natural?

Twitter is aflood with debate as to whether Cheryl Cole’s performance of ‘Promise This’ on tonight’s ‘X Factor’ was mimed, autotuned, or completely natural.

We think a couple of the note transitions sound a bit tampered-with, and good old Little Boots has suggested that maybe she used an autotune-enabled microphone.

At the end of the day though, it was a confident performance of a pretty decent pop track with some decent choreography and some good “looking pretty” from Cheryl. What did you think?

X Factor Live Week 3: The Hot & The Not

The third hilariously long live show took us back to the original quota of 12 finalists, with the very vaguely interpreted theme Guilty Pleasures. Here’s our round-up of the good and the bad…

PAIJE RICHARDSON: He’s a good singer and a nice chap but we just don’t particularly see Paije as a potential popstar. Seeing as he went first tonight we wouldn’t be mortified if he ended up in the Bottom 2 this week. NOT

JOHN ADELEYE: There still isn’t much of a memorable connection with John and we expect him to end up in the Bottom 2 this week. NOT

REBECCA FERGUSON: Another superb vocal from Rebecca in her strongest week yet. What she needs to do now is become that little bit more exciting. HOT

CHER LLOYD: Commanded the stage like a seasoned popstar and continues to soar up our good books. Kudos, Cher. HOT

MATT CARDALE: Interesting song choice but handing Matt a guitar and throwing him to the wolves was a good decision by Dannii and the behatted one delivered yet another brilliant performance. HOT

ONE DIRECTION: This will sound ridiculous but bear with us – we now affiliate this song with Lauren Samuels after her performance of it on ‘Over The Rainbow’ earlier in the year; ergo we were left unmoved by the boys’ performance last night. Not a classic from them, but if they get evicted before the Grand Final we will be shocked. NOT

TREYC COHEN: We’re still not sold on her voice! Yes she can belt like the best of them but we haven’t particularly warmed to her and last night’s performance left us feeling a little cold. NOT

MARY BYRNE: Mix it up, Mary! Another solid, faultless performance from the People’s Champion but we’d love to see something different next week. HOT

AIDEN GRIMSHAW: We do agree with Cheryl that he is a bit intense to the point of alienation, and we still didn’t think last night’s performance was a faultless vocal. But it certainly improved on last week and we’d be interested to see how he adapts to more specific themes. HOT

BELLE AMIE: See ya later, girls. NOT

WAGNER: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA NOT

KATIE WAISSEL: What a ridiculous song choice, in a very good way. Katie strolled through the performance with ease and even seemed a bit more likeable this week. We still don’t think her fanbase is big enough to sail her through to next week’s show without a fight, so we still wouldn’t be shocked if she wound up in tonight’s sing-off. HOT

X Factor Live Week 2: The Hot & The Not

Another two hour marathon of Saturday night karaoke courtesy of ‘The X Factor’, with lots and LOTS of awkward banter and a mixed bag of good and bad performances. We take a look here at who was hot and who was not. What did you think?

STORM LEE: As irrelevant as he may be to the modern market, his vocals are usually quite strong. But his performance was a little shaky tonight with some pitchy vocals and some over-excitable production. He’s our tip to have received the lowest number of votes this week. NOT

TREYC COHEN: We appreciate the power of her voice, but we still haven’t really warmed to her. Her performance of ‘Purple Rain’ was very, very good indeed; but we’re not sure if she really has the power to stay in the running until the end. Should be fine for at least another few weeks, though; and we have to admit she gave a very strong performance tonight. HOT

PAIJE RICHARDSON: Weak and forgettable, we wouldn’t be surprised if Paije was in the Bottom 3 this week. His vocals are OK and he seems a lovely chap, but we’re not sure he’d last five minutes in the current market. At risk. NOT

ONE DIRECTION: A Kelly Clarkson hit was an odd choice for performance but the boys did it well. Whether or not the volume of the vocal was down to a typically loud backing track remains to be seen; but there’s no way we can envisage this group bowing out before the Grand Final. HOT

CHER LLOYD: An interesting choice of track and perhaps one of the better performances we’ve seen Cher give. Her vocal was good, her rap wasn’t quite as cringe-worthy as we were expecting, and whilst we still can’t see her going all the way, we’re content to have her on our screens for another few weeks. HOT

JOHN ADELEYE: Does anyone feel like they’ve really “gotten to know” John? His vocal tonight was very good and very sincere indeed but personally we found it difficult to keep our attention spans in focus for the duration. He needs to show a bit more character if he’s going to be in with a shot to win. If we’re judging the singing, though, he should be fine for another week. HOT

DIVA FEVER: We still can’t get over how good one of the boys is and how atrociously bad the other is. They’re a novelty act who bring alot of fun to the show but their performances prove they stand very little chance of going the whole hog. NOT

REBECCA FERGUSON: Rebecca made a much stronger impression this week. Being placed further down the playbill certainly helped, and delivering a more confident vocal performance should secure her a place on the show for a long while yet. HOT

AIDEN GRIMSHAW: Aiden’s performance tonight was cack, much worse than last week’s, and we have a sneaky suspicion (wait for it) that his “it was shit, I know” approach after the judges comments was a bit put-on for pity. We’re sure he’ll be saved by the public, and we hope he brings it back next week, but for tonight we’re not liking it at all. NOT

WAGNER: Maybe it’ll be interesting to hear him just stand with a mic and a dry ice machine and hear if he can actually sing…? We’re intrigued… NOT

KATIE WAISSEL: This may not be popular: She wasn’t bad. She was quite good. Yes, we zoned out halfway through, and no, we’re still not warming to her personality; but here’s the thing: Alot of celebrities do have that air of arrogance and self-assurance about them, whether we’d like to believe it or not. We’re fascinated to see if she’ll hang on another week, but based on tonight’s performance we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if she sails through to Week 3. HOT

BELLE AMIE: Why did they choose to show clips of the girls in dispute during the VT?! Do the producers ever want a girl group to be taken seriously on the show?! Tonight’s performance was quite strong vocally, despite the horrendous facial make-up, but truth be told we wouldn’t be shocked if they went tomorrow. It was a good performance but will they go all the way? We can’t see it, no. NOT

MARY BYRNE: Quite similar to last week’s offering, but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Mary delivered another killer rendition this week that perhaps wasn’t quite as flawless as last week but which still wiped the floor with alot of the weaker acts tonight. Mary began the live finals as a relative outisder, but there’s no telling how far she’ll go now. HOT

MATT CARDLE: Bruno Mars? A musical hero? Really?! Still, with a performance like that we’re not complaining. Two stunning performances in a row now from Matt, and you can expect his narrow lead at the top of the betting markets to become alot more comfortable over the next few days. HOT
