Video: Britney Spears talks X Factor, is looking for ‘spark and spunk’

So it’s a long-established fact now that The X Factor USA is more exciting than The X Factor UK this year, purely because the judging panel is hella better and it’s pretty clear from the weaknesses of season one that Simon Cowell will have gone to hell and back to make it better.

In a new video clip (“new” as in four days ago, oops), judges Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid discuss the San Fransisco auditions, with Britney brushing off the suggestion that she is the “toughest judge” and saying she tries to be constructively critical.

What the judges actually say isn’t particularly interesting, but I just love how comfortable Britney is in this clip. That wouldn’t be a big deal for most other celebs, but since The Great Meltdown Of ’07 every interview with her has been so carefully regulated and sucked dry of personality, and it’s reassuring when looking forward to the show’s premiere in September that she could well completely hold her own as a panellist and prove a lot of her critics wrong.

Also Demi is a legend. But we already knew that.

Noted loon Louis Walsh to join Britney, Demi and LA at today’s X Factor USA auditions

The X Factor USA auditions seem to be occurring on a fortnightly basis, and two weeks after the first dates in Austin, Texas, the wagons are rolling into Kansas City today (June 8) for another two days of shooting.

But with Simon Cowell stuck at home with bronchitis, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid will be joined by… erm… Louis Walsh.

A source told The Sun:

“Simon said it was an emergency and Louis was the man for the job. He said he’d sorted out a private jet for him and he was to get on it as soon as he finished up in Manchester [yesterday]. He greased the wheels with the US bosses, telling them that Louis was the man who knew more about The X Factor than any other judge.”

YOU CAN KEEP HIM, AMERICA. REALLY.

Meanwhile our Anastacia wishes are finally coming true (sort of). The ‘Left Outside Alone’ warbler is to guest judge the Glasgow auditions next week alongside Tulisa, Gary Barlow and a jet-lagged Walsh.

Britney Spears’ rep basically has a meltdown over the meltdown rumours

Now’s a good time to dig up that “LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!” video.

Britney Spears’ rep has ‘slammed’ reports that the hitmaker is “coming undone” whilst filming The X Factor USA.

In all of two days of filming, Us Weekly reported that “X Factor may lead her back into meltdown territory… This is a lot of change at once for Britney.” This of course is despite the fact that Simon Cowell recorded a special video message for a separate gossip outlet last week insisting that all negative press reports about the two days of taping in Texas were false.

But, speaking to Gossip Cop, Brit’s rep said that Us Weekly were told before publishing their ‘scoop’ that there were absolutely no signs of a 2007 repeat, but decided to run with it anyway.

“[It's a pathetic attempt at creating a story," they raged.

Imagine if LA Reid had a meltdown. Literally no-one would care.

John Legend suggests Demi Lovato can’t sing; should probably lay low for a while

It’s hard to get excited about YET ANOTHER TV talent show, but after watching a recent Good Morning America sneak peak (and knowing Kelly Clarkson is on the panel) Duets seems like it might be pretty good.

But rivalry between it and its rivals is inevitable, and John Legend – who sits alongside Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke on Duets – hasn’t minced his words. Asked about Britney Spears and Demi Lovato’s appointments on The X Factor USA, he suggested (though I am being a tiiiny bit sensationalist) that the pair can’t actually sing. OK, Britney’s recent output has got more autotune on it than that T-Pain/Lily Allen collabo from last year, but Demi? No way!

Speaking at the ABC Upfronts, he told E!:

“You know it’s interesting. It should be very interesting. I don’t have much to say. It’s interesting when people you know who are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers. It’s interesting.”

Well, to be fair, Britney is an absolute legend, but she is more of “a popstar” than “a singer”. But can you really say Demi doesn’t have a huge set of pipes on her? And isn’t this show about finding “a popstar”, for better or worse?

Kelly added:

“I’m excited for both of them. I’m a big fan of both of them. Both of those girls are super sweet. I think it’s fun for them too to just be more out in the public eye again. I think those two are two you really want to root for and you really want them to succeed, so I think that’s exciting… Obviously they are both performers so… I think that show really needs it. I don’t think everybody latched onto that show like they thought they would.”

John, mate, you might want to lay low and keep away from your Twitter ‘@’ mentions for a little while…

And now for Demi being a very good singer:

VIDEO: The moment Demi Lovato and Britney Spears were unveiled for The X Factor

Demi Lovato and Britney Spears have been officially unveiled as X Factor judges (SHOCK HORROR)… And here’s the moment they were unveiled.

Britney isn’t particularly full of banter but go Demi – she’s ready to win!

Note also Britney’s lil’ gaffaw when Simon says he’s ready to “kick butt”. SOUND THE PERSONALITY ALARM! (I joke, but… seriously, Britney. Let’s not much this up, right?)

Britney Spears walking down a road in New York? YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS

Well, there have been constant rumours for the last Godknowshowmany months that Britney Spears’ X Factor announcement “is imminent”, and over the weekend it was alleged that she’ll be in New York today for the Fox Upfronts presentation to announce her appointment in person.

And, in an alarming display of an X Factor-related rumour potentially being true, here she is. In New York.

JOURNALISM, everybody.

The increasingly tedious Britney Spears X Factor rumour is STILL unconfirmed

It would appear that Britney Spears’ X Factor USA signing is, in fact, still unconfirmed.

Contrary to reports earlier this week saying she had signed the contract, TMZ now insists that she hasn’t… but says she will appear at Fox’s Upfronts presentation on Monday to announce it in person.

Apparently, as of yesterday morning, the deal was still unsealed due to a couple of very minor issues, but conservators Jason Trawick (fiance) and Jamie Spears (father) are hoped to be signing the final contract over the weekend.

Both Brit and Fox execs think her personal appearance at the Upfronts in New York will generate a huge buzz for the show.

Rumours on the fourth judge have gone quiet, but the most recent reports name Demi Lovato as the most likely candidate. Won’t her big summer tour get in the way a bit…?

Britney Spears X Factor USA appointment confirmed

After months and months (and months) of speculation, reports are emerging that Britney Spears’ appointment on The X Factor USA has been confirmed.

E! Online says that the star has finally signed the dotted line on a contract worth $15 million.

Says a show source:

“She’s ready for this. She can’t wait to sit down next to Simon at the judges’ table and give this everything she’s got. She is excited about showing the world that she can do this, and do this well. This is the perfect next stage in her career. Both Britney and Simon are very excited to work together.”

No official press statement has arrived from the show yet, though E! seems to think that will follow very soon.

Demi Lovato is thought to be the frontrunner to join Spears, Simon Cowell and LA Reid on the panel, whilst Miley Cyrus is allegedly in talks to host.

Let’s hope this one doesn’t massively backfire on her. If she thinks she’s under a lot of media scrutiny now

This Demi Lovato X Factor rumour might ACTUALLY be true

Well. Fuck me.

Last night I reported that Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato are being hunted by Simon Cowell to join The X Factor USA, but pointed out – not unreasonably, you would think – that the chances of either being hired, particularly someone as relatively early-days as Demi, would be  incredibly unlikely.

ALAS.

The Hollywood Reporter, which is relatively accurate when compared to many other sources, today claims that the ‘Skyscraper’ hitmaker is in “final negotiations” to join Simon Cowell, LA Reid and the hotly-tipped Britney Spears on the judging panel. See my incredibly well-designed (…) photo above.

What’s more, Gossip Cop – also a hugely reliable source of bullshit-filtering – claims to have appealed to her management for an official word, but they insisted that the rumours could not be confirmed or denied. Surely if she wasn’t being approached, they would just flat-out deny it.

Anyone who reads Trash Lounge on a regular basis will know that Demi ranks incredibly high on our scale of amazingness, but it still feels like she’s just getting started. She only released Unbroken, her first post-Disney assault of high-calibre proper-pop last September, and even that still felt like a prelude to something even better. What’s more, she – like Britney – is still recovering from an enormous amount of personal struggles.

Still, even if she has yet to score the major record sales, she certainly has one of the best pop voices in the world today, and XFUSA could give her that extra push into superstar status.

It’s worth remembering that Simon and the producers talk to a load of candidates before making their final decision, so this could still prove to be an anticlimactic rumour.

Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato ‘in talks’ for X Factor USA

In “this is probably total bollocks” news, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato are allegedly in the frame to replace Nicole Scherzinger and/or Paula Abdul on The X Factor USA.

If chosen, the 19-year-old Disney stars will join Simon Cowell, LA Reid and the to-be-confirmed Britney Spears.

A source tells Celebuzz that ”there have been talks with Miley”, adding that Demi and the already-rumoured-a-bit Avril Lavigne have also been considered.

Filmed auditions for the new season start very soon, and Cowell also has a seat on the UK show to fill after losing Kelly Rowland. He’s apparently keen for Dannii Minogue to return to the show and take her place.

I suppose Cyrus wouldn’t be the most left-field person in the world, and it would certainly help reverse the backwards trend her album sales started to take with last LP Can’t Be Tamed in 2010. Lovato I genuinely would be shocked at – she’s amazing but she’s only just getting started, and nowhere near established enough to take up a seat on the panel.

Generally though it’s highly unlikely that either have been considered. Avril Lavigne and LeAnn Rimes seem far more likely candidates.
