Strictly Come Dancing professionals facing major shake-up?

Look out, Strictly pros – the producers apparently want a bit of a clear-out.

Yesterday it was announced that two new bosses had been recruited for the 2012 run, and their first point of action will allegedly be a shake-up of the professional dancer roster.

The Daily Mail claims that Brendan Cole and Anton Du Beke, as viewer favourites, are probably dead certs to return. After all, who will take the entertainingly shit celebrities if Anton doesn’t?!

For rowdier dancers like James and Ola Jordan, however, the axe might be hanging above their heads. They were (allegedly) thrown off the live tour as punishment for their excessive back-chat during last year’s live shows, and they were also named in earlier axe reports back in December.

Here’s what “a source” had to say:

“The line-up needs to be refreshed. But there’s a lot of discussion about exactly who will be invited back. The professionals on the U.S. version of the show are better — their skill level is higher and they are much more daring with their routines, too. Len and Bruno are also judges on the American show, and they have been sending a clear message back that there should be improvements made.”

Who do you want to see back?

Darcey Bussell replaces Alesha Dixon on Strictly Come Dancing

Darcey Bussell will replace Alesha Dixon on Strictly Come Dancing this year, it has been confirmed.

The professional dancer will sit alongside Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli when the series returns in the autumn.

Karen Hardy, Ola Jordan, Jennifer Grey, Kara Tointon and Russell Grant had been linked to the role, as had previous judge Arlene Philips.

Darcey has been a guest judge in the past, and boasts an OBE and countless years (‘countless’ as in there probably is a count somewhere) of professional experience on her CV. Safe to say she’s a bit more qualified than Alesha, whose experience, much as we love her, was, um, being on the show herself.

The show enjoyed one of its most successful runs to date in 2011, trumping The X Factor on several occasions thanks to performances from Harry Judd, Chelsee Healey and Jason Donovan.

Alesha quit the show in January, announcing just the next day that she had signed up for Britain’s Got Talent instead.

Nice to see you, to see you leave! Bruce Forsyth backs Alesha on Britain’s Got Talent

Bruce Forsyth has voiced his support for Alesha Dixon in her new role on Britain’s Got Talent.

The ‘Boy Does Nothing’ singer walked out on Strictly Come Dancing after being seduced by an enormous salary and greater exposure on Britain’s Got Talent.

Mail Online quotes Brucie as saying: “We’re going to miss her tremendously, but I think she will be great on that show.

“She’ll get more exposure and be heard more. She’ll have a chance to show off her great sense of humour. I think she will do marvellously.”

When asked if he feels let down by her, he said: “Not in the slightest. It may be called showbusiness, but I’m not sure people always realise that it has always been more “business” than “show”.”

David Walliams, another new judge on BGT this year, spoke up as to why he and Alesha will be better than Kelly Brook, who was a judge for all of five minutes in 2009.

“When Kelly did the show, she asked Ant and Dec what they did on it,” he told The Sun. “I have seen the show, so I haven’t made that mistake – I’ve learned which is Ant and which is Dec, so I should be fine.

“The others have all judged before. I haven’t but, you know, it should be OK. How hard can it be?”

Simon Cowell added: “I think that was a whole different situation because we didn’t tell anyone, not even the other judges and Ant and Dec didn’t know. This time everyone is on board, they’re getting on fine, we won’t see a repeat of that.”

The show will hit screens in the Spring.

TOWIE’s Lydia Bright for Strictly Come Dancing?

The cast of The Only Way Is Essex are slowly working their way through the nation’s roster of celebrity-driven reality shows, and now Lydia Bright has said that an offer from Strictly Come Dancing would be enough to tempt her away from the ITV2 hit.

Speaking to Bang Showbiz, she said: “I’d love to do Strictly, I think it sounds really fun. I like trying new things.

“You never know, if it came around and it was the right opportunity for me then I would definitely consider it.”

But for now, she’s lucky to still have a job at TOWIE. Maria Fowler, Kirk Norcross and Harry Derbidge have all been dumped from the season four line-up, and Sam Faiers is thought to have only been spared because she persuaded her boyfriend to sign up.

Lyds continued: “At the moment I’m really enjoying filming TOWIE and being involved with that.

“You never know and if the right opportunity came my way then there could be the chance I’d leave. But right now I’m staying in TOWIE and enjoying my time on the show. I’m in no rush to leave anytime soon.”

The show returns for its fourth series on Sunday January 29.

Who’ll replace Alesha Dixon on Strictly Come Dancing?

Kara Tointon has replaced Karen Hardy as the bookies’ favourite to replace Alesha Dixon on the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel.

Kara won the 2010 series of the BBC1 hit in the highest-rated season finale in the show’s history, whilst Karen used to work with the celebrities as a professional dancer before commentating on the show for special Red Button coverage.

Former EastEnders star Kara is now odds-on favourite on 10/11, whilst Karen slips to 6/4.

Behind them is Chelsee Healey on 5/1 and Arlene Phillips on 6/1, with Anton Du Beke the most likely male on 16/1 odds. He shares those odds with former champion Jill Halfpenny and pro Erin Boag.

Ola Jordan and Mark Ramprakash are long shots on 25/1, whilst Russell Grant is 40/1 and Anne Widdecombe is 100/1.

Who do you think would make a good replacement for Alesha?

UPDATED: Alesha Dixon quits Strictly Come Dancing, joins Britain’s Got Talent

It was believed that all four Strictly Come Dancing judges would be safe from the axe for the 2012 series, but Alesha Dixon has turned them down and announced her resignation.

Her next job? A new judge on Britain’s Got Talent.

A statement on her website reads: “Alesha has decided not to return to Strictly Come Dancing after a successful three-series run and will instead be joining the Britain’s Got Talent panel, alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and David Walliams.”

She told Mail On Sunday recently that TV may be her main career path from now on.

“I would love to have my own chat show,” she said. “I’d love to be able to address serious issues, and keep a foot in the entertainment world,” she said. I just want to do it all, and I think you can. Oprah has.”

A BBC spokesperson wished her all the best, before adding: “She has done three very successful series with us and we look forward to announcing our new line-up in due course.”

So who can fill Alesha’s shoes?

Strictly Come Dancing final: Ratings down year-on-year

Strictly Come Dancing‘s grand final captivated around 12 million viewers last night, peaking at over 13 million towards the end of the first part.

The first instalment, which included the show dances, averaged 12.18 million viewers, with a peak of 13.04 million glued to the final 15 minutes.

The second instalment, which concluded with Harry Judd’s victory, averaged 11.94 million.

Despite 2011 showing a strong year for the dancefloor hit, in which it regularly beat ITV rival The X Factor, this year’s finale was actually down on last year’s record-breaking climax. An average of 13.08 million and a peak of 14.1 million tuned in to see Kara Tointon crowned winner on Saturday, December 18, 2010.

Last night’s figures were also slightly short on The X Factor final last Sunday, when an average of 12.88 million saw Little Mix win.

Strictly Come Dancing: Two professionals to be sacked?

It’s been hours since Harry Judd walked away from Strictly Come Dancing as the 2011 winner, and already the tabloids are wetting themselves with 2012 gossip.

Reportedly all four judges’ jobs are safe, after bosses saw the negative effect X Factor‘s panel reload had on the ratings.

It’s a different story for the professionals however, and it’s been alleged that two of the show’s best-loved dancers are in the firing line.

“There could be a very different line-up this time next year,” an insider told the Daily Star Sunday. “Producers are keen to keep things fresh so quite a few faces could be dropped.

“It’s going to be brutal for some of them. But that’s the way it works when you’re on telly’s top show. The only ones who have been discussed are Ola and James at the moment. They might be liked by viewers but that may not be enough to save them.”

HARSH.

Strictly Come Dancing final: Who’s dancing what

Details for this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing final were revealed at a press conference today.

The climax of one of the show’s most successful seasons will kick off at 7pm on Saturday, when all three couples will perform both a Judges’ Choice routine and their Showdance.

In the second show at 9pm, one act will be eliminated before the final two perform a brand new routine and their favourite of the series.

Each dance will be marked by Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli as per usual, but their scores will count for nothing – it’s ALL on public votes.

The dances will be as follows:

Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani
Quickstep to ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’
Showdance to ‘Great Balls Of Fire’
American Smooth to ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’
Argentine tango to ‘Asi Se Baila El Tango’

Jason Donovan and Kristina Rihanoff
Tango to ‘I Will Survive’
Showdance to ‘Dancin’ Fool’
Salsa to ‘Hard To Handle’
Quickstep to ‘Bewitched’

Chelsee Healey and Pasha Kovalev
Jive to ‘I’m A Believer’
Showdance to ‘One Night Only’
Rumba to ‘Because Of You’
Quickstep to ‘Sing Sing Sing’

SPOILER ALERT: Who’s out of Strictly Come Dancing this week? (10th/11th December)

WARNING! CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILER ABOUT AN EPISODE OF STRICTLY COME DANCING THAT WILL NOT AIR UNTIL SUNDAY 11TH DECEMBER 2011

Well, apologies for the delay everyone!

With the final just a week away, Strictly decided to hold its own in the drama-stakes as it squared up to the X Factor final over at Wembley.

It’s not a surprising double elimination to be honest; a sad farewell but not an unexpected one.

Alex Jones and Holly Valance will be leaving the floor this evening.
