Rebecca Ferguson’s album has made a decent US debut

Rebecca Ferguson is well on her way to “breaking America”.

Yet to score a ‘hit single’ in the USA, her debut album Heaven still managed to race into the Billboard 200 listings at No. 23.

OK, so that’s not exactly a chart position to have on your gravestone, but when you consider that Natasha Bedingfield – allegedly now bigger in the US than in the UK – saw her last album go in at No. 103, you can’t really complain.

Elsewhere One Direction’s Up All Night has returned to the Top 5 as their gloabal domination continues (the performance of their 2nd album will be fascinating, won’t it?).

Heaven has now peaked at No. 3 in the UK, No.16 in Australia, No.15 in Germany, No.9 in Ireland, No.22 in New Zealand and No.7 in that all-important, make-or-break Swiss market.

Cher Lloyd is also making progress – her US debut single ‘Want U Back’ has made it to No. 38 on the Pop Songs chart and No. 21 on the Heatseekers (?) chart.

Here’s WHOOPI GOLDBERG introducing Rebecca on The View.

Rebecca Ferguson tops half a million album sales, gains on One Direction

Rebecca Ferguson’s Heaven topped the half-million sales barrier last week with her debut album Heaven.

The record is currently approaching double-platinum status (awarded for 600,000 shipments) and moved 13-6 on 9,901 sales in this week’s chart. It has now been constantly on the rise for the six consecutive weeks since it reached its lowest chart position to date (No. 60) back in April, and its overall sales tally now stands at 501,338.

‘Glitter & Gold’, benefiting from a performance on Alan Carr: Chatty Man, climbs 182-116, having sold 2,209 downloads.

In terms of sales from the X Factor 2010 season, Heaven remains the second best-selling album from an act of that year. One Direction’s Up All Night remains in front with 608,382 sales, while Matt Cardle’s Letters has managed a respectable 268,865 (though only 20,000 have been since January) and Cher Lloyd’s Sticks + Stones is close behind him.

At the top of the list this week, Keane’s Strangeland nets 47,839 sales to debut at No. 1 – an increase on Night Train‘s 28,063-copy start but down on the first-week figures their eponymous debut (155,373), Under The Iron Sea (222,297) and Perfect Symmetry (79,106).

Girls Aloud’s reunion, Will Young’s song of the century, The Saturdays in the USA and more: It’s this week’s TLTV!

This week in pop has been full of big chart news and girlband superiority.

While Girls Aloud have been plotting their return to the UK charts, The Saturdays have (allegedly) been planning their move to the US. Oh, and Kimberley Walsh’s Olympics single has been unveiled.

Tulisa’s set a 2012 chart record (but Rita Ora’s already looking likely to take it off her), Keane are on course for one hell of a comeback, and Will Young is behind the best-seller of the 21st Century.

Catch up on all that and more – including Rebecca Ferguson’s broken-legged performances – below.

Rebecca Ferguson performs incrediballad on Britain’s Got Talent

Rebecca Ferguson made an interesting move on Britain’s Got Talent last night – instead of performing her new single ‘Glitter and Gold’, she played fan favourite ‘Teach Me How To Be Loved’.

The track is not a single but is a standout of her debut album Heaven.

The choice seemed a bit puzzling but, thinking about it, R-Fergz isn’t a ‘singles’ artist – she could have performed ‘Glitter & Gold’ but it probably wouldn’t have sent it propelling up the iTunes singles chart. It probably wouldn’t have had that big an effect on the album sales either seeing as it has already benefited from that song by leaping 30-13 in last week’s album chart.

As it is, ‘Teach Me How To Be Loved’ has fired up to No. 51 on iTunes and, most impressively, the album has soared back to No. 3.

Watch the gorgeous, broken-legged performance below.

Tulisa racks up fastest-selling début of 2012

Completing a week of opinion-splitting list-topping, Tulisa is the UK’s official Number 1 with ‘Young’.

Not only that, but with 122,000 sold it’s the second-fastest seller of 2012, and the fastest for a debut release. DJ Fresh and Rita Ora’s ‘Hot Right Now’ still holds the overall lead with 128,000.

It’s the 11th number one of the first 18 weeks of 2012, and the fourth from a female solo artist.

Jeppo slides to No. 2 this week, with fun. holding at No. 3 and Cover Drive sweeping in at No. 4 with ‘Sparks’. It’s a much stronger song than ‘Twilight’ but alas it winds up entering three places below it.

Over on the album chart, Marina and the Diamonds’ Electra Heart manages to hold off Lana Del Rey and become her first chart-topping LP. Norah Jones is new at 4, Rebecca Ferguson shoots back up from 30-13 and Steps’ Ultimate Collection re-enters at No. 32 off the back of their new SkyLiving series.

Rebecca Ferguson hits America, performs for LA’s 104.3 MYfm

Rebecca Ferguson’s US mission is now underway, as the British invasion continues.

She had a chat with Rolling Stone today, following a brilliant performance for LA’s 104.3 MYfm yesterday to perform stripped-back renditions of ‘Nothing’s Real But Love’ and ‘Shoulder To Shoulder’.

Watch them below. Both of them are (obviously) stunning.

Heaven is released to the US market later this month.

Midweek Charts: Album Of The Year is probably going to be Number 1

Marina and the Diamonds’ second album Electra Heart is Number 1 in today’s midweek figures. WELL DONE, RECORD-BUYING PUBLIC!

The Official Charts Company notes that its lead over Lana Del Rey’s resurgent Born To Die is comfortable, while Norah Jones is due for an impressive entry at No. 4 with Little Broken Hearts.

Rebecca Ferguson’s Heaven ricochets  30-15 on its 22nd chart week, as ‘Glitter & Gold’ airplay reaches fever pitch. Predictably however, the song itself is absent from the singles charts in its official week of release.

Tulisa’s ‘Young’ is on course to debut at the top of that particular countdown, giving her a Number 1 single in the same week as her FHM 100 Sexiest victory. Cover Drive land at No. 3 with ‘Sparks’ behind Jeppo’s ‘Call Me Maybe’, Marina could land her first ever Top 10 single if ‘Primadonna’ holds on at No. 10, and James Vincent McMorrow’s ‘Higher Love’ appears at No. 29 thanks to Tyler James on The Voice.

Rebecca Ferguson posts Glitter & Gold behind the scenes clip

Rebecca Ferguson’s ‘Glitter & Gold’ stands little-to-no chance of registering within the Top 100, let alone the Top 40 when it is released in full next week (April 29), but its A-List status on Radio 2 is keeping the album ticking over, and now in support of the whole shebang a behind-the-scenes clip of the video shoot has appeared.

The director talks through the general concept of the promo, and takes a few mins to sing Rebecca’s praises as well.

Check it out below.

Rebecca Ferguson gives US fans amazing new song, rest of world dies with envy

Rebecca Ferguson’s Heaven will come loaded with this rather brilliant new song when it’s released in North America on May 15.

‘Backtrack’ appears to have its own lyric video (though not on an official YouTube account), so whether it’ll be used as the lead single remains to be seen, but presumably they’ll lead again with ‘Nothing’s Real But Love’, given that it helped the record achieve Platinum status in under a fortnight over here in December.

The song is Emeli Sande ‘Next To Me’-style piano pop (though with very different lyrical content), mixed a chord sequence not dissimilar to Aloe Blacc’s ‘I Need A Dollar’.

It’s equally as good as everything on Heaven, but it does have a slightly different feel about it to the ten songs that made the initial tracklisting, so you can kinda understand its initial exclusion.

Heaven has now climbed to a new peak of No. 16 in Australia, and has also charted at No. 22 in New Zealand and No. 30 in Italy.

American Idol shocker, Rebecca Ferguson abroad, Joe McElderry in the studio and more: It’s this week’s TLTV!

If you’ve missed anything in the poposphere over the past week then you need our 3-minute TLTV round-up.

It’s your essential round-up of all things pop from the last seven days, from Jessica Sanchez’s dramatic near-elimination on American Idol to Emeli Sande’s confirmation as the first guest performer on The Voice.

We also had the exciting news that Joe McElderry is planning his fourth album (and that he wants a duet with the not-so-exciting Dappy), the announcement of Alexandra Burke’s second album title, the chart success of Justin Bieber, Rebecca Ferguson’s international chart invasion, and new videos from Paloma Faith, Jessie J and Lawson. Oh, and a lovely new Diana Vickers cover.
