Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato ‘in talks’ for X Factor USA

In “this is probably total bollocks” news, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato are allegedly in the frame to replace Nicole Scherzinger and/or Paula Abdul on The X Factor USA.

If chosen, the 19-year-old Disney stars will join Simon Cowell, LA Reid and the to-be-confirmed Britney Spears.

A source tells Celebuzz that ”there have been talks with Miley”, adding that Demi and the already-rumoured-a-bit Avril Lavigne have also been considered.

Filmed auditions for the new season start very soon, and Cowell also has a seat on the UK show to fill after losing Kelly Rowland. He’s apparently keen for Dannii Minogue to return to the show and take her place.

I suppose Cyrus wouldn’t be the most left-field person in the world, and it would certainly help reverse the backwards trend her album sales started to take with last LP Can’t Be Tamed in 2010. Lovato I genuinely would be shocked at – she’s amazing but she’s only just getting started, and nowhere near established enough to take up a seat on the panel.

Generally though it’s highly unlikely that either have been considered. Avril Lavigne and LeAnn Rimes seem far more likely candidates.

Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore in LOL: New full-length trailer

Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore star in LOL, a new coming-of-age comedy from Lionsgate, and a new full-length trailer has been released.

It doesn’t look likely to break any new ground whatsoever – apart from the fact that the screenwriters actually called their lead character Lol (as in short for Lola) – but should be a nice light-hearted flick if all goes to plan.

Mash-Up: Rihanna and Miley Cyrus find love in the USA

My mash-ups have been coming thick and fast over on Soundcloud - some of them good and some of them not-so-much – but one that’s done particularly well is between Rihanna and Miley Cyrus.

‘We Found Love In The USA’ merges RiRi’s enormotune with Miley Cyrus’ BEHEMOTH ‘Party In The USA’.

It’s accumulated over 1600 spins on Soundcloud over the past fortnight, and I uploaded it to YouTube earlier this week so… yknow, this is mainly just to bump the plays up a bit…

Miley Cyrus issues EPIC gay marriage statement

Miley Cyrus has put herself in the headlines again, but this time for good reasons – as she continues to speak out in support of gay marriage in the USA.

The former Disney star, who had an equality symbol tattooed on her finger last August, has been issuing her views in the latest issue of Glamour.

“Imagine finding someone you love more than anything in the world, who you would risk your life for but couldn’t marry. And you couldn’t have that special day the way your friends do – you know, wear the ring on your finger and have it mean the same thing as everybody else. Just put yourself in that person’s shoes. It makes me feel sick to my stomach.

I believe every American should be allowed the same rights and civil liberties. Without legalised same-sex marriage, most of the time you cannot share the same health benefits, you are not considered next of kin and you are not granted the same securities as a heterosexual couple.

How is this different than having someone sit in the back of the bus because of their skin colour?”

Later in her piece she goes on to mention her famously conservative pa, Billy Ray Cyrus.

“We all should be tolerant of one another and embrace our differences. My dad is a real man’s man, lives on the farm and is as Southern and straight as they come. He loves my gay friends and even supports same-sex marriage. If my father can do it, anyone can.

This is America, the nation of dreams. We’re so proud of that. And yet certain people are excluded. It’s just not right.”

Miley Cyrus and Shakira plotting collaboration?

Miley Cyrus and Shakira are reportedly planning to join forces for a duet, in aid of children with severe heart diseases.

Miley herself has a mild heart condition that causes tachycardia, and Shakira founded children’s charity Pies Descalzos Foundation in 1995.

Ace Showbiz reports that the pair’s track is called ‘Love & Rock’, and will be released on Valentine’s Day, February 14. They will apparently perform the track at a charity gala on the same day before launching an official music video.

Miley’s officially on a break from her full-time music career, and released her last album Can’t Be Tamed in the summer of 2010. Shakira scored global success with her World Cup tune ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’.

Watch: Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato’s original Disney auditions

Awww! They may have respectively gone on to provoke controversy, date Justin Bieber and spend Christmas in a treatment centre, but it’s not so long ago that Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato were plucky teens desperate to be the new Hilary Duff and Vanessa Hudgens.

Check out their original audition tapes for their big Disney shows.

Top 50 Singles of 2010: 50-41

Pop has continued to thrive in 2010, with more autotune, more usage of the words “club” and “DJ”, and more Pitbull guest raps than ever before. Picking out the best 50 of the year is a harder task than you’d expect – ‘California Gurls’, ‘Good Times’, ‘Pass Out’, ‘Start Without You’, ‘Parachute’, ‘Billionaire’, ‘Missing You’, ‘Dynamite’, ‘Riverside’ and ‘OMG’ are just ten of the tracks that did not make it onto our list – so what did?

Remember, if you disagree with any of our decisions you can take a vote in our separate readers’ poll – click here to vote.

Today we start our annual countdown with Numbers 50-41. Here we go, leave comments at the bottom of the page…

50. Scouting For Girls – ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’
April, Peak #1
Admittedly, the album was cack. But at least with this single SFG proved they are capable of being a bit more affecting and  heartfelt than their first batch of sound-a-like singles suggested. Complete with a heartstring-tugging video of airport goodbyes, ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’ gave the trio their first ever #1 single and abled them to invent their own ‘Easter #1′ label.

49. Miley Cyrus – ‘Can’t Be Tamed’
May, Peak #13
‘Party In The USA’ it ain’t, but ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ successfully marked (as her people put it) “the next step in the evolution of Miley”. It didn’t really do the business Stateside, but the track’s parent album allowed Cyrus her first ever appearance in a UK Top 10 after a storming, if typically controversial, performance on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. At the end of the day this isn’t pop music at its very best, but on ability to drill itself into your head after just a couple of listens it certainly stands out.

48. McFly – ‘Party Girl’
September, Peak #6
If they wanted to head in a new direction they certainly didn’t disappoint. McFly breathed new life into a career spanning six years with this surprisingly amazing assault of electro-pop. Bandwagon-jumping? Yes, probably. But when it’s this good, who really cares?! As with Scouting For Girls, they didn’t really manage to spread their new-found glory over an entire album, but full credit to them for coming back fighting.

47. Ellie Goulding – ‘Starry Eyed’
March, Peak #4
What a year for Ellie Goulding. Not only did she achieve widespread critical acclaim at the top of the year with her BRIT Critics Choice award and the BBC Sound of 2010 honours, but she managed to avoid Little Boots’ problem of becoming over-hyped by putting out an incredible album and this infectious single at the very height of all the attention. ‘Starry Eyed’ justified all the hype with its glossy production from Starsmith and cute, velvety vocals from Goulding. Keep an eye out – Ellie will appear again on our Top 50 another two times…

46. Owl City – ‘Fireflies’
January, Peak #1
After becoming an unexpected smash hit in the US, Owl City’s bleepy début managed to achieve similar success overseas; and for six months it was looking like a strong contender for the year’s best-seller. Sadly, subsequent hit singles never materialised (follow-up ‘Umbrella Beach’ charted at #194), but with nearly 4 million copies of this track sold worldwide, we’re sure musician Adam Young isn’t too bitter about that.

45. Alesha Dixon – ‘Radio’
December, Peak #46
What happened?! One minute Alesha was unstoppable, and the next she’s got a single charting outside the Top 40 and an album limping to #84! The sad thing is that ‘Radio’ is actually an almighty tune; a heartfelt rave-ballad from the same tree as ‘Breathe Slow’ and a brilliant Americanised music video to accompany it. One can only hope her next single – a rather catchy duet with Jay Sean – can save her from the brink of being dropped for the second time.

44. Selena Gomez and the Scene – ‘Naturally’
April, Peak #7
Miley and Demi have never managed it, but Selena achieved a UK Top 10 smash on her first attempt. ‘Naturally’ was a slow-burning, infectious electro-pop cracker with one of the year’s best intros. Perhaps the only mainstream Disney star with squeaky-clean reputation still intact, tween fave Gomez also managed to score two Top 20 albums in the space of five months as well as continuing to work as a successful Disney actress. Hate her or love her, you certainly can’t call the girl lazy…

43. The Hoosiers – ‘Choices’
August, Peak #11
This time last year we certainly didn’t expect to see 2008′s most annoying indie trio in our list of great pop singles. But the quirky outfit returned this year with an updated sound which strayed away from the tryhard indie of their début and veered more towards surprisingly listenable electro-pop, and even though album ‘The Illusion of Safety’ failed to sell as well as perhaps intended, ‘Choices’ gave them their third Top 20 single and made them a hell of a lot less irritating.

42. The Wanted – ‘All Time Low’
August, Peak #1
After a promotional campaign that felt like it dragged for centuries, this new boyband “from the creators of The Saturdays” had an army of screaming fans before they’d even released any music, and as a result the admittedly rather good ‘All Time Low’ steamrollered all competition to chart at #1 over the summer. Already considered worthy of a guest spot on ‘The X Factor’, and with a surprisingly decent album under their belts, they get extra kudos from us for giving Trash Lounge a shout-out on Twitter last month. Thanks, guys.

41. Alexis Jordan – ‘Happiness’
November, Peak #3
Competed on an international talent show? Check. Scoring an international dance-pop smash? Check. Agnes? Nope. This time it’s Alexis Jordan, competitor on the first series of America’s Got Talent and responsible for this surprisingly brilliant single that took radio playlists and singles charts by storm in the Autumn. With a second single that’s just as head-invading, we hope she’ll be a major player in the sound of 2011.

Ten down, forty to go. Nos 40-31 include five solo females, one solo male, one band, and three collaborations. Any guesses? Leave predictions and any comments on Nos 50-41 in the space below.

Prepare your cringe glands: It’s the new Miley video

Miley releases one of the blander tracks from the ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ album as her next UK single – ‘Who Owns My Heart’ has finally had its video released, and it’s a rather uncomfortable clubbing affair that makes you yearn for the ‘Party In The USA’ days.

Dear Miley, release this instead

Miley Cyrus will premiere the video for her frankly pants next European single ‘Who Owns My Heart’ very soon – not only is this a worse track than next US single ‘Two More Lonely People’, but both are worse than our fave track from the disappointingly average ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ album, ‘My Heart Beats For Love’:

Sad face.

Album Review: Miley Cyrus – Can’t Be Tamed

UK Release: 21 June 2010 / Label: Hollywood / Tracklisting: 1. Liberty Walk; 2. Who Owns My Heart; 3. Can't Be Tamed; 4. Every Rose Has Its Thorn; 5. Two More Lonely People; 6. Forgiveness and Love; 7. Permanent December; 8. Stay; 9. Scars, 10. Take Me Along; 11. Robot; 12. My Heart Beats For Love

We’ve been among the first to admit that when it comes to music, Miley Cyrus is pretty good at defying expectation. Her debut album ‘Breakout’ was a surprisingly satisfying listen, and last summer’s EP ‘The Time of Our Lives’ was very good indeed. But apparently, before she takes a self-imposed break from the music industry, it’s time for a massive musical re-invention. As such we have keyboards where there once were guitars and auto-tune where there was once happy-go-lucky crooning. Yep, you guessed it – like countless others, the Nashville teen has leapt aboard the electropop bandwagon.

First impressions? Massive disappointment. ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ lacks both the “lalala, let’s have fun” factor of ‘Breakout’ and the subtle, cool pop sounds of ‘The Time of Our Lives’, instead getting lost in wishy-washy sub-standard synth-pop and far too many hollow ballads. A few tracks strive for anthemic hands-in-the-air status but fall far short, especially the album’s opener ‘Liberty Walk’; a song about standing up for yourself and “feeling your heart again, breathing new oxygen”. Fair enough, but someone forgot to make it remotely interesting. Similarly ‘Who Owns My Heart’, a track that essentially adds a giant ladel-full of pretentiousness to the concept of drunkenly pulling a randomer in a club (“Is it love or is it art… I can’t tell if it’s the beat or sparks”), is similarly lacking in punch, and in fact it’s the titular lead single that first hits the mark. It’s not the type of track that’ll top the ‘Best of 2010′ lists in six months’ time, but with enough balls to give Operation Forget-I’m-From-Disney some serious momentum, it lodges itself right up there with the best of Miley’s singles.

From those opening three tracks it continues at a similarly fluctating rate. For an album marketed as an attitude-filled evolution for the teen sensation there are still an awful lot of ballads to sit through - we’re quite prone to a good ballad, but only two of what feels like a billion (‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ and ‘My Heart Beats For Love’, both better than their titles will have you believe) really make a lasting impression. And as for the up-tempo cuts, it’s all a bit of a waste really. ’Two More Lonely People’ is, after a couple of listens, a pretty good 90s-esque pop nugget, but other than that there’s just a string of forgetful tunes that, from someone as capable as Cyrus, just fail to hit the mark. ‘Party In The USA’? ‘Fly On The Wall’? ‘See You Again’? What happened?!

But then, on the other hand, she does deserve to be cut a smidgeon of slack. She’s credited for co-writing all but one of the standard edition’s twelve tracks, which is a hell of a lot more than Disney-mate Selena Gomez could manage for her latest album; and her vocals have come a long, long way since the fragile wailing that was slightly apparent on tracks like ’The Climb’. To produce a string of cracking tracks and then bow out just as quality control takes a giant turn for the worse seems a shame; but hopefully when she’s ready to revisit the pop world she’ll be back up to standard again.
