The first bunch of midweek sales figures are in, and Noel Gallagher has sold a whopping 55,000 copies of his band’s eponymous debut Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds to cruise to the top of the charts.
Matt Cardle has sold half that amount with his pretty good album Letters, but there’s no shame in the No2 position, with Steps expected to drop to No3 with The Ultimate Collection.
Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream is on course to return to the Top 10 after The X Factor, while ‘The Only That Got Away’ (AMAZING) rockets as high as No16 on the singles chart.
On the subject of singles, The Wanted are currently a kitten’s whisker ahead of Rihanna/Calvin Harris with ‘Lightning‘. They rest at No2 on iTunes but fans’ keenness for the physical CD copy keep it narrowly ahead of RiRi’s ‘We Found Love’. It’s a fragile lead though, and it wouldn’t be a massive shocker if it has to settle for second place by the weekend.
Being used in a major TV ad (and a cover by XF’s Sophie Habibis) helps Charlene Soraia’s version of ‘Wherever You Will Go’ double its sales and progress 7-3, while there’s good news for Kelly Clarkson as she lands at 4 with ‘Mr Know It All‘.
Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilara’s billion-year stint at No2 could finally be over, as it looks set to slip to the edge of the Top 5. Lana Del Rey’s currently in sixth with ‘Video Games’.
So how do we reckon this will all change by the weekend?

What a load of garbage. The Wanted are nothing but a talentless overrated wannabe boy band who release one crappy single after another. They don’t deserve that number one spot at all!
it does seem so easy for boybands to get No1 these days!
