Good news for Grey’s, Modern Family; question marks for Housewives, Brothers & Sisters

It’s that time of year when the US networks reveal what shows are safe and which are on the way out. ABC has already revealed the fate of six favourites, but two remain uncertain.

Grey’s Anatomy and its spin-off Private Practise will return for seasons eight and five respectively, while comedies Modern Family, Cougar Town and The Middle will all return for a third run. There’ll also be a fourth season for Castle, a crime-drama that’s not so well known in the UK.

But – here’s the tense bit – the futures of our two favourites, Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters, are still up in the air. The cast of ‘Housewives’ were only ever signed on to do seven seasons, and although it’s thought that creator Marc Cherry has been granted another two years, negotiations with Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, ‘Brothers and Sisters’ has been surrounded by axe rumours ever since ABC only ordered 18 episodes for Season 5. Despite that number being raised to 22 in October, “sources” still believe there is a 50/50 chance the show will be cancelled at the end of the current season.
