After two rather average-selling singles, the demise of Girls Can’t Catch has been confirmed.
The girls supported Girls Aloud on tour last year and later went on to support the Jonas Brothers as well. Their debut single ‘Keep Your Head Up’ charted at No26 last August, and ‘Echo’ peaked at No19 in January.
The band comprised Daisy Agnew, Jess Stickley, and X Factor girlband Hope’s lead singer Phoebe Brown. Brown was, oddly, the only female contestant from the 2007 series of the show to still have mainstream chart success. Same Difference are making a comeback now though, so swings and roundabouts, and all that.
The girls were never going to set the world alight, and perhaps after Fascination successfully launched Girls Aloud and The Saturdays they should have kept themselves restricted to just the two girlbands. But ‘Keep Your Head Up’ and ‘Echo’ were enjoyable enough singles, and, although you probably can’t recall either very well now, were average-to-good back when they came out.
So, as GCC fade into oblivion and leave absoloutley no legacy whatsoever, we eagerly await whatever ill-advised solo careers or future attempts at girlbandery they may try their hands at next. Daisy, Jess, Phoebe: thanks for trying, and well done for sacrificing your dignity to be in a pop group with such a ridiculously stupid name.
ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS.
