‘Brave’ on course for Pixar’s 13th consecutive US Box Office Number 1

Despite reviews being slightly less enthusiastic than the Pixar norm, Brave is on course to become the studio’s 13th consecutive Box Office chart-topper in the US.

The animation opened yesterday and raked in an impressive $24.5 million, easily ahead of the rest of the competition. The closest competitor was the critically-panned Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on $6.3 million.

$24.5 million is around $1 million short of what Cars 2 managed on its first day last year, but experts predict that the fact Brave is a non-sequel will mean it will hold up better across the whole weekend overall. Whereas Cars 2 had $66.1 million, Brave is expected to fetch just south of $70 million. But it will need to beat The Incredibles’ $70.4 million if it’s to score the studio’s best ever opening  for a non-Toy Story film, and that apparently is unlikely.

Still, it will mark their 13th No1 in 13 attempts – not bad at all.

Brave is out on August 17 in the UK.

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
