North American television network The CW has handed early pickups to its three most successful scripted shows.
90210, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural will all be back in Autumn for the 2012/13 US TV season.
90210, which was looking a little shaky at the beginning of its current fourth run, managed to regain momentum as the year progressed and has now been confirmed to be returning for a fifth season after the summer break. The Vampire Diaries will be airing its fourth season, while Supernatural will be back for an eighth.
It’s still looking precarious however for the network’s other shows, Gossip Girl, Ringer, Hart Of Dixie, The Secret Circle and Nikita, which are all still awaiting their fate. One Tree Hill, as we all know, has ended for good.
None of them have performed particularly well, and there are reasons for and against all of them returning. Gossip Girl is one of the lowest-rated shows on the network, slamming to an all-time low in the viewing figures this year. But it has a huge profile, and its stars are media staples on a weekly basis. For Hart Of Dixie, it may not have done that great, but considering how small its promotion has been compared to other shows (that haven’t really fared any better), it’s done well to amass a dedicated following.
SAVE HART OF DIXIE!
